Five Spice Powder
The five-spice blend was invented in China and consists of 5 spices that are mixed in a certain ratio:
- 1 part of star anise
- 1 part of Sichuan pepper
- 1/2 part cloves
- 1/2 part split cassia
- 1 1/4 part fennel
The five-spice mixture is usually sold ground or as a set of whole ingredients. It is an essential part of Chinese and Vietnamese dishes.
